A few days ago I saw a Great Blue Heron at Colonial Lake in Lawrence Township, NJ in various poses as it preened itself for several minutes. The photos shown below need no explanation.

They’re such lovely birds, aren’t they? We have blue herons around here and it’s always a joy to see one, especially standing on one leg. I read that they do that because the water’s cold. I wonder if that’s true. 🙂

They’re magnificent! I THINK that’s true, that they preserve body heat that way. In the summer, I don’t know. Maybe they’re practicing their “crane on a rock” karate stance. 🙂
