Seumas Gallacher was recently featured in the above article in The National, the government-owned English language daily newspaper of Abu Dhabi.
Master Gallacher, a genuine kilt-wearing Scotsman who lives in Abu Dhabi, often comes across as zany, but he’s done pretty well at taming the lions in the self-publishing circus.

Very interesting article. I looked at his books on Amazon. 12 reviews on one, 15 on the other … a $4.99 price point … and he has surpassed 50,000 copies in sales. Do you suppose that number includes free books as well? He’s not on Barnes & Noble. I’m fascinated by his story. He mentioned LinkedIn, and I got the impression that really started the ball rolling for him. Are you on LinkedIn, Tim? I really need to figure out how to use Twitter to my advantage this year (not just start it up for playing around with my friends), and if LinkedIn is a serious marketing tool, I should look into that, too. I was looking at Goodreads again recently, and I can’t take advantage of their giveaway promotions, because I only have ebooks. … And now I am caught up with you, Mr. Dittmer! 🙂

I’m on LinkedIn, but it hasn’t really had any affect on sales that I noticed. I saw results on Twitter during the giveaway… noticeable results when a big hitter retweeted my tweets.

Don’t know if that number includes freebies or not, Maddie. I think you can send an announcement of a giveaway at Amazon to all your Goodreads friends, but I haven’t really looked into it.

I wonder how he used LinkedIn to his advantage. I have an account there, but it’s really one just… there. I don’t do anything with it, haha. I need to look up some tips; I fail in the marketing department!

Not really sure how he used LindedIn. Like I told Maddie, I’m on there but haven’t seen any results from it. Of course, like you, I don’t do much with it. There’s just so much to learn about using social media as a marketing tool.
