I don’t like to review and critique an author’s work. I’m just not qualified.

I’m just banging around in this new world, knocking my head up against the dull points of my own ignorance as I try to figure out what I’m doing. While I was wandering about, clicking on this and that, I came across this piece:

Famous“, by Ashley Barron.

I read it once. Then I read it again… and again… and again. This morning I ended up back at Smashwords to read it yet again. So, qualified or not, I’ve just got to say something.

Now I can’t even begin to imagine what a woman would think about as she reads this. I’ve never been able to figure out what’s going on in there. But I’m a dad, and I know what I thought.

This piece punches me, straight and hard, in that vulnerable spot just below the ribs. Doubles me over and sucks the wind right out of me.

I would recommend that any dad out there take a look at it. It’s a short story, and won’t take up much of your time… unless you end up reading it over and over like I did.

Go ahead. See for yourself.

Read it.

And weep.
